Lexikon in vier Stücken

4 graphic notations 4 musical translations
    200 × 240mm
    2022

The intention of my thesis project is to generate a visual translation of a book which can be used as instructions for reinterpretation and also open up an additional way of experiencing the medium. Through this new approach it is possible to experience the book itself but also its typographical qualities and the interaction between the users and the object in a different way.
I am using Meyers Kleines Lexikon Musik – which I have been using for other projects as well – to interpret it based on its haptic and design. Four aspects of the book are translated in four separate graphic notations which will be interpreted by four musicians. Each person plays one notation.
I challenged myself to find the liveliness of music on these pages. To find a rhythm that is communicated to us in the text of this encyclopedia but which are maybe not able to locate clearly.

Mir geht es wie dem Jesus, mir tut das Kreuz so weh

    Object Copper IUD (worn)
    Metal Jesus
    2019

Translated: I feel like Jesus, my lower back hurts
In German the word Kreuz/Cross is used to describe the lower back area. The piece is made of a copper IUD which I wore for 5 years. The Jesus figure was taken form a metal pendant.

This sculpture was shown at the exhibitions »We Sould All Be Lichens« at A&O Halle Leipzig (Germany) in 2019 and at the »BYOA« Exhibition in the Great Space at UIC Chicago, IL (USA) in 2020.

      Psychose

      210×297mm
      64 pages
      2019

This screenplay was developed after a performance during a workshop at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. For this performance I also built an instrument and developed a sound piece.
